When contractors arrive on the jobsite, they want to hit the ground running and focus on the task at hand, whether that means digging a foundation, cutting a corporate lawn or building a house. As such, it’s irritating to watch productivity drop because, for instance, narrow, steep trailer ramps make it difficult to unload equipment.

That’s not an issue with the pull-behind rigs on these pages. By offering features such as lower-angle and wider ramps and soft-landing tiltbeds, manufacturers are making it easier, faster and safer than ever to load and unload machines. They’re also building trailers that offer more security, convenience and versatility. So if you’re in the market for a new trailer, the varied models shown here are ready to shoulder the load.

Big Lug HD Series dump trailer

The CT1414HD trailer from Trail-et Inc. in Waupaca, Wis., is a dump trailer that doubles as an equipment hauler. With a GVWR of 15,580 pounds and a payload/dump capacity of 11,200 pounds, the trailer features mechanical levers that enable the operator to open the tailgate from the side, out of harm’s way, during dumping. Moreover, the two-in-one tailgate opens from the bottom, so it also can be used as a spreader, while a barn-door configuration allows full access for equipment. Double-acting hydraulic cylinders promote stability and tilt the bed up to 45 degrees for full payload dumping. With a 27-inch-high, low-profile deck, workers can drive equipment on and off the 4,380-pound trailer more easily and safely because the 6-inch, storable cleated ramps incline at a shallower angle. The box is made of 11-gauge, high-strength steel and covered with a durable, powder-coated finish. Inside dimensions are 24 inches high, 80 inches wide and 14 feet long. www.big-lug.com; 800/344-1326
